まあいろいろあって高い席で見ることになりました。
Neil Patrick Harris　がホスト役。この方知りません、客席からすごい人気だったのです。
7時から8時まではTV生中継がはいっていません。昔はＣＡＴＶで流していたのにねえ。
後ほどの中継の間に受賞シーンが小刻みに繰り入れられるのです。

最初はRegional Theatre Tony Award。
次にBest Orchestrations。Next To Normal かあBilly を良くおさえてとれたなあと
思っていたらBilly も同時受賞でした。TIEということがあるんですねえ。
次はBest Lighting Design of a PlayとMusical、ここからBilly がぶっちぎり始めました。
次はBest Costume Design of a PlayとMusical、Play Anthony Ward氏は会場にいないと
いうことでわたさずじまい、Musical のシュレックはひときわ大きい拍手でした。
シュレックは確かに衣装がおもしろかった。
次はBest Scenic Design、Best Sound Design、Best Choreography、Best Book、ここでもBilly。
最後に、Isabelle Stevenson Award、Phyllis Newman氏が指名されると1階席総立ちで拍手。
今年から新しくできたSpecial Press Agent というのができていました。

さてこれから生放送です。
その前にビデオで"TONY's Rule"、裏方さんが順に出てきてルールを話します。
時間をまもれ、人の名前を羅列して時間を無駄にするな、フラッシュしたらあきらめろ、
電話は切れ、遅れるな、、、、とかあって最後は Don't Forget Smile！

さてこれからオープニングです。もうこれだけでおなかいっぱいになるほどのおもしろさ。
冒頭は3人のビリーによる白鳥の湖！どこ見ていいか困りますよ。大人ビリーも出てきて
三箇所でダンスが進行、そのうちの一人のビリーはフライング、くるくる回りながら
ラジオシティミュージックホールの天井近くまであがっていきました。
それからTonightとLuck Be a Ladyの掛け合い、Rock of Ages, Pal Joey, Next to Normal,
Shrek, 9to5, Liza's at The Palace, ときて最後はHair。
舞台上にぎっしりつまった総キャストによるLet it Sunshine in、Hairのキャストは花を
客席に投げ込み、そして客席にはいりこんで客いじり、客席は全員手拍子。
オープニングシーンの終了時には客席全員でスタンディングオベーションでした。
TONY賞のオープニングの中で最も金がかかっているものだという説明がありましたが、
思わず納得。各作品の良いシーンをここで全部やってしまって、後でいったいどこを
やるの？たしかにここ数年の中では一番の面白さだったと思います。

それから左右の舞台でプレゼンテーションと受賞者のスピーチが続きました。
受賞者の背景にはその作品のポスターが表示されていました。
真ん中の広い舞台はパフォーマンス用となっています。真ん中舞台の前に放映用
スクリーンの立派なものが出ていたのですが、去年もありましたっけ？
ＣＭ中には昔のミュージカルのＣＭ，若かりし日のチタリベラやサットンフォスター登場。

最初のパフォーマンスはShrek、シュレックとフィオナ姫とドンキーはちょっとだけの出演で
お城での王様と兵隊たちのシーンでした。このちんちくりんの王様の演技はいいですよねえ。

Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a PlayでAngela Lansburyさんが受賞したとき
には観客総立ちの拍手でショーストップ、舞台は見てないのですが色々年輪を重ねた方のようです。

それからなんとMama Mia!のパフォーマンスが始まりました。今回の趣向でツアーにでている
プロダクションの紹介もするのだそうです。曲はもちろんDancing Queen。
後ほどLegally Blonde, Jersey Boys のパフォーマンスもありました。Jersey Boys は各地の
キャスト総集合でしたよ。

ＣＭ中には今度はシュレックのオーディションシーンとしたビデオ放映がありました。
皆被り物をして朗々と歌いあげるのです。熊が歌うアクエリアス、豚が回す椅子（Billy 白鳥ね）、
蛇のハンドパペットを持つピノキオ、などネタとしても秀逸。
ここから今度はプレイノミネート作品の紹介。今回はキャストが作品を紹介した後
舞台のビデオが流れました。
ベストスコアがNext to Normal に行ったのは良かった。曲や歌詞が物語と密接に関与していて
すばらしいものになっています。

WSSのパフォーマンスは体育館のダンスシーンからTonight。私が見たトニーとは違うトニーです。
こっちの方がいい男かも。でもやっぱりマリアに負けてる気がするのは私が男だから？

ＣＭ中に司会者がマジック、観客をひとり指差して100以下の数字を思い浮かべてくれ。
色紙になにやらかいて、３４だね？ＮＯ色紙を裏返すと「ＮＯ」と書いてあるｗ
実はその後のＣＭ中にまた同じマジック、観客をゆびさして、今度はいくつだ？と聞いて
答えた数字が色紙に書かれていました。場内大うけ。

Best Direction of PlayではMatthew Warchus　氏が二つもノミネートされており、そのうち
God of Carnage で受賞。そのうえふたつとも作品賞をとっちゃったのです。 The Norman
Conquest も見ればよかったか。

ROAのパフォーマンスでは皆に配られていたらしいペンライトをふるようにというお達しあり。
2/3の観客はふっていたでしょうか。しかしいったいどこで配られていたのだ？？

Best Special Theatrical EventでLiza's at The Palaceが受賞したときも場内総立ち拍手
でショーストップになりました。

次はGUYS & DOLLS, Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boatのシーン。ここでソロのマイクが不調、
どうするんだろうと思っていたら舞台袖からハンドマイクを持った人が走ってきて手渡し
事なきをえました。さすが Show must go on、この程度のトラブルは織り込み済みなのですね。
それからMillion Dollar Qualtet による演奏、この方たちもツアー？

Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a MusicalはBillyのお父さんへ。お父さんの
スピーチは感極まって途切れ途切れでした。お父さんのよさが私にわかったのは舞台の台詞が
聞き取れるようになった後でしたよ。
Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a MusicalはWSSでAnita役のKaren Olivo。
たしかにこの人がWSSの中でも一人気をはいていたので、妥当なところでしょう。

次のパフォーマンスはNext To Normal の誕生日ケーキのシーン。やっぱり泣けます。
それからComing Soon のＣＭ、来年はスパイダーマンとアダムズファミリーなのね。
スパイダーマンはフライングワークショップの様子を出していました。

Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a PlayはExit the Kingの王様。
Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a PlayはGod of Carnageの被害者母親。
いずれも極めてすばらしい演技でした。ちなみにGod of Carnageからは主演女優と主演男優に
ふたりずつノミネートされていたのですね。

Billy のパフォーマンスはAngry Dance のシーンです。今回はひとり。うーむ、私が舞台で
みた方が生き生きとしていたような。。

Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatreでは場内総立ちで拍手、
ショーストップ。Best Play はGod of Carnageでいかにもという結果。

HairのパフォーマンスはHair, もちろん客席乱入、客いじり多数。そしてこの直後に
Best Revival of a Musicalの発表があってHairが受賞。関係者・キャストが舞台上に
あがって大騒ぎｗ

Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a MusicalはNext to Normal ヒロインの
Alice Ripley。この人に行ってよかった。私の今回の一押し女優です。
Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a MusicalはBilly の子役3人。
ビリーエリオット主役は３人パッケージで申請があったとか。
TONY賞６３年の歴史の中でも同じカテゴリの同じ役で３人の俳優がTONY賞をとったのは
はじめてだそうです。舞台にあがった子供たちは声が出ません。
"Unbelievable"って君たち以外に誰が取るのよ？
そして作品賞はもちろんBilly Elliot、まあこれだけ他の賞を取っていれば他には
考えられないでしょう。

最後のＣＭの時に司会者が「ミュージカル作品賞が発表されても帰るな、後がある。
２分くらいで終わる」を連呼。いつもはミュージカル作品賞が発表されるとみんな席を
立って帰路につくのです。でもって作品賞の後にフィナーレで司会者による受賞を読み込んだ
Tonighｔの替え歌がでました。この替え歌にエンディングクレジットを重ねたようですね。

今回のTONY賞授賞式は例年になくおもしろい出来でした。パフォーマンス紹介が増えたのも
よかったですし、なんといってもオープニングの迫力に負けました。TONY賞事務局も色々
試行錯誤を繰り返しているようです。
受賞のゆくえはまあ想像したとおりだったのですが、これだけ盛り上げてくれたらまた見に
こようという気になりますね。
